Life on Earth began 4.1 billion years ago - 300 million years earlier than scientists previously thought

UCLA geochemists have found evidence that life likely existed on Earth at least 4.1 billion years ago -- 300 million years earlier than previous research suggested. The discovery indicates that life may have begun shortly after the planet formed 4.54 billion years ago. The research is published today in the online early edition of the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Click here to read the rest of this article.

  1. But CDs will use their powers of confirmation bias and point to the fact that life was created just after the earth was formed, just as it says in genesis. In their eyes it will only provide proof of their take on creation, whilst they blissfully ignore the inconvenient 4.1 billion years bit!

    1. Christadelphians can believe that fairies created the World for all I care. That makes about as much sense as God creating it. Our task is not only to reject Christadelphian thinking and to show why it is wrong; our task is to learn what really happened at the origins of our Universe, life and all that we know.

It is not enough that we reject Christadelphian superstition; it is far more important that we learn what should replace it. New ways of thinking, better ways of reasoning and an understanding of what is happening at the forefront of science, technology and human understanding of these fascinating subjects.

We should learn about our true origins and then figure out where we go from here. We walk away from our faith into a Universe that is indifferent to us, but also one that has endless things to teach us.

Disproving Christadelphians should be a minor part of the work of this website. The most part of our efforts should be discovering what really is going on and what we need to do about it. This affects how we live our lives and how we set our objectives.

    2. One of the best ways to disprove Christadelphianism is to expose their young people to the ongoing discoveries of science. They will soon get the message that they have been lied to by their parents and Christadelphian teachers. I lied to them when I was a Christadelphian speaker, writer, publisher and film maker. It's all a disgrace and I am disgusted with myself that I did it knowing how weak was the evidence. I was a liar for God. - Never again! I have put all that behind me.

    3. The Christadelphian method of discovering origins is Fideism. They simply believe what humans wrote in their holy book the Bible and they keep believing it no matter how stupid it is and however much it is contradicted by science, human discovery and technology. If it is violated by observable reality they keep believing and reject or slander the real data.

I know of no better way to fool yourself and to fail to discover anything that is real or true. It is a superb method to impede human enlightenment and the advance of human understanding. When taught to children it is blatant child abuse and a breach of their human rights to an unbiased education.

  2. If life on Earth really did begin half a billion years after the formation of our planet it means that it started before the Late Heavy Bombardment. If that is what happened it means that life probably started twice, because it is unlikely to have survived the cataclysm. Therefore it would have to re-start again after the bombardment. Therefore it must be a simple matter for life to originate and life must have originated billions of times across our Universe. Moreover it must originate in the same manner and life elsewhere in the Universe must be the same as our form of life - carbon based.
