Swanwick Special: God Is Imaginary - Useful links for young people to consider

By Joseph Strong

Christadelphians are always bothering people (particularly young people, and even more particularly their own young people) to read the Bible and find out the truth for yourself. What this means of course is that they want you to CONFIRM that what they are teaching you actually is the truth.

Of course if you actually do look at the Bible yourself, and come to the "wrong" conclusion, you will be swiftly pointed in the direction of scripture twister Ron Abel's (out of date) "Wrested Scriptures", to have your thinking corrected.

The theme for this Bible weekend is "Supporting Acts". You may like to read this reference to get some background as to how the stories referred to in Acts got further and further away from what actually happened as each version of the gospels was written, and the Christian story got embellished more and more, as the gospels of Mark, Matthew and Luke were written, with Acts following on from the significantly changed Luke.

Having read that reference, try this one which claims to present proof of the resurrection. Which makes sense? and which relies on the supernatural (magic)?

If you have internet access at Swanwick, or before you go, you would be well advised to spend some of your free time looking at the excellent godisimaginary website. Some of the 50 proofs that God is imaginary are in the form of two people talking. It is fun to role play these as it adds more impact to just how ignorant of their own gullibility some people really are.

Here is an extract from proof 28 to get you thinking:
"If you believe in God, you have chosen to reject Allah, Vishnu, Budda, Waheguru and all of the thousands of other gods that other people worship today. It is quite likely that you rejected these other gods without ever looking into their religions or reading their books. You simply absorbed the dominant faith in your home or in the society you grew up in.
In the same way, the followers of all these other religions have chosen to reject God. You think their gods are imaginary, and they think your God is imaginary.
In other words, each religious person on earth today arbitrarily rejects thousands of gods as imaginary, many of which he/she has never even heard of, and arbitrarily chooses to "believe" in one of them"

If looking at the site upsets you, or you feel it is in some way "wrong", you should not fear, we have all felt that way as our faith has started to break down, it is natural and nothing to be ashamed of.

Feel free to comment here or contact us by email if you wish to discuss things. You will not be exposed.
